The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary's goal is to protect the plants and animals and to introduce more to the sanctuary. Already there are wekas, tuis, fantails, grey warblers, and NZ falcon and bellbirds in the Sanctuary.

Lots of birds are to be re-introduced. The kiwi, saddleback, yellowheads and parakeets and even the kakapo are going to come back when the fence is up.

They have been trying to find bats in the sanctuary using bat boxes to record their high-pitched calls. They have not found any traces yet. Bats will be reintroduced into the Sanctuary too.

When goats were in the Sanctuary all the low plants kept getting eaten. When they got rid of the goats all the plants started growing back. There were even some plants that no one had ever seen before.

There are tawa in the sanctuary, which is as far south as they can grow. Most of the larger trees are titoki. There are also nikau palms which are usually found near the coast.

Weka are common in the Sanctuary
